Division By Equal Grouping

Equal Sharing:

Dividing a number into smaller and equal groups is called equal sharing.

For example

There are 12 apples and 3 boys. How many apples will each boy get?

We have to divide the total number of apples that is 12, by the number of boys which is 3.

We see that each boy will get 4 apples.

Equal Grouping:

Collecting or arranging small numbers to make a large number is called equal grouping.

For example

There are 16 teddy and we have to group 2 teddy together. How many groups will be formed?

When we put 2 teddy together 1 group will be formed.

In the figure above we can see that 8 groups will be formed.

So we can say that

16 div 2 = 8

Illustration 1:  Identify the relation shown in the figure
